Jason, I really enjoy that you point out that people gravitate towards positive messages and information vs whiny complaining which can occur on blogs. I subscribe to HARO (curious to see what folks are looking for) and Jason Calcanis' newsletter (To see what deep thoughts about business he has).

A newsletter I really enjoy is the one put out by Freshbooks. They make web based invoicing software that can be used instead of Quickbooks. Even though I don't use their service, I enjoy the content, design and peppy energy in their newsletters that I open them with a smile!

Email newsletters get a bad name being abused by spammy marketers so I've stayed away from them until recently but seeing my RSS subscriber numbers grow in Feedburner tells me people like to "hear from you".

There's definitely a TON of opportunity in terms of content+email newsletters ala dailycandy, thrillist,etc. It's not shiny/new/sexy so everyone is overlooking it for the hot trend of the moment.

I think e-commerce sites should take notice as well. E-Mailing well designed, informative newsletters is a great way to keep customers and subscribers engaged.
